Suzanne Rigg COSCA
Suzanne Rigg is a COSCA registered therapist who trained in psychodynamic and person-centred counselling and psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh. She believes that talking therapy is useful in thinking about and reflecting upon feelings, thoughts, behaviours and patterns that may be causing discomfort or distress.
At the same time Suzanne recognises that some life experiences are traumatic and can leave an imprint on the mind, body and brain, requiring a therapeutic approach that heals both the physiological and emotional legacy of trauma. This understanding prompted her to undertake additional training in trauma-specific approaches, such as the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM). Her approach to trauma therapy includes body-based grounding techniques, breathing sequences, internal resourcing and trauma processing. These can be incorporated into talking therapy sessions or used as a stand-alone trauma therapy.
Is Therapy for you?
Therapy can be beneficial in dealing with specific issues such as anxiety, depression, loss, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and childhood trauma, as well as less clearly- defined issues such as difficulties in forming or maintaining close relationships, and feeling ‘lost’ or ‘stuck’ in life. It can lead to greater understanding and self-awareness and healthier relationships with yourself and with others.
What to expect during a consultation?
Suzanne will discuss your reasons for embarking on therapy and take a detailed personal history. Areas to explore in future sessions will be clarified and the most appropriate therapeutic approach will be discussed and agreed. There will be opportunities to ask questions.
