For those with higher nutritional needs, higher amounts can be taken - a gram is 2 capsules - but we do not recommend exceeding 4 grams (8 capsules a day). Taking a gram of seaweed a day can help to ensure your vitality and energy, and keep you feeling happy, healthy and active. Seagreens is a good source of iodine and one a day meets all your daily requirements, even when you are pregnant or breastfeeding which is when your body needs more iodine to support the healthy growth and development of your baby.
We advise that you do not take kelp if you are taking thyroid medication, if you have a thyroid condition or an auto-immune condition (such as Hashimoto's) without the supervision of your doctor or medical herbalist.
If you take a capsule of knotted kelp a day as well as thyroxine, your thyroxine dose may well need to be lowered. If you intend to take both together we recommend that you introduce the kelp 4 weeks before your next TSH serum blood test and inform your doctor so that your medication can be adjusted accordingly, if necessary.
Do not take kelp capsules if you are allergic to iodine or seaweeds.
